Leylandii, what purpose do you serve, other than to frustrate the shit out of me?
My brother and I spent all of sunday chopping down the infernal plant. The previous owner of my house, a landscape gardener who should have known better planted about 30 of these things in the back yard. He had expertly trimmed and pruned them in a very thick hedge along the outer edge of the garden. The garden isn't very big to start with and by putting the trees he had removed and area of about 600 square feet. The poor old lady next door hasn't been able to grow potatos in her garden since they were planted, the leylandii would suck up all the available moisture stunting the growth of her spuds.
They're not very nice to remove either, even the green bits are as sharp as needles, the brown bits are worse and my mauled arms prove it. Thankfully all that is left of them is a very short stump now, which will soon be drilled and filled with Dead Root stump killer.
Farewell suckers, I shall not miss thee!
